Masoud Alireza
Masoud Alireza (b. 1985 Tehran, Iran) earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design before relocating to Bergen, Norway, to pursue a master's in fine arts. Alireza was awarded Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond prize in 2018 and later the Norske Kunsthåndverkeres Debutant Prize in 2022. He currently resides in Bergen, where he continues to follow his passion for drawing as an independent artist and teacher.
Alireza's work centers on the exploration of drawing as a medium, with a focus on pushing its limitations. He aims to immerse the audience in the space between two-dimensional and three-dimensional realms of visual experience, challenging traditional definitions of drawing. He works with classic materials like paper and graphite, utilizing the fundamental element of line, but in ways that offer new perspectives on what drawing can be.
At present, Alireza is developing a concept he calls "de-drawing." In this project, he explores the possibility of stripping away representational aspects on the paper's surface, effectively turning the act of drawing against itself. Here, the artist's interaction with the audience is centered on the physical presence of the work, inviting them to engage with drawing beyond its conventional forms.
